The Blues were ahead of many other English Premier League teams in the race to recruit the Ivorian from Norwegian side, Molde, and confirmed their successful recruitment of the player in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement read: “Chelsea FC has reached a pre-agreement with Molde FK for the transfer of David Datro Fofana. The 20-year-old striker will join the Blues on 1 January 2023. We look forward to welcoming David to the club!”
This year, Molde romped to the Eliteserien title, thanks to 15 goals from Fofana. The availability of the youngster had been made known to teams like Brighton, Brentford, and Leicester, with the Seagulls keeping a close eye on him in particular.
However, it is to the Blues’ credit that they were the successful team. Their pursuit of Fofana was led by recruitment analyst, Kyle Macauley, who moved from Brighton to Chelsea alongside Graham Potter, and finally helped them get their man.
