October 10, (THEWILL) –Â After scoring for the 56th consecutive Women’s Super League game, Emma Hayes’ formidable Chelsea squad shattered a long-standing Premier League record.
Chelsea, the reigning Super League champions, defeated Leicester City 2-0 on Sunday with two late goals from Pernille Harder and Fran Kirby.
Chelsea not only moved into second place, but they also broke a record set by Arsenal’s men’s team. Arsene Wenger’s side scored in 55 consecutive Premier League games between May 2001 and November 2002, a record now broken by Chelsea ladies.
Sam Kerr set up Kirby’s second goal of the game, giving the pair a total of 17 goals in the Super League.
It is a tie with Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead for the most of any duo. Kirby has aided Kerr 10 times in just 23 league games, while Kerr has assisted Kirby seven times.
