August 26, (THEWILL) –Â After a protracted negotiation, Chelsea and Leicester have finally come to an agreement about the transfer of Wesley Fofana.
This summer, the Blues have already had several offers for the defender rejected, as they attempt to replace the gaps left by the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
Earlier this month, Foxes’ manager, Brendan Rodgers, publicly vowed that Fofana would not be sold, but the Frenchman has since been demoted to the Foxes’ Under-23s after skipping a workout, possibly to push for a transfer.
The 21-year-old, a lifelong supporter of the Blues, now has a transfer fee agreed upon by both Chelsea and Leicester. The East Midlands club had long demanded a bid around the £80 million they received from Manchester United for Harry Maguire in 2019, and Chelsea’s offer of £70 million plus an additional £10 million in add-ons satisfies that need.
The 2020/2021 season saw Fofana have a fantastic first season in England, but his performances in the previous year were limited by a broken leg he had 12 months earlier. Ironically, the two teams play each other on Saturday afternoon at Stamford Bridge without Fofana being eligible for either of them.
