July 30, (THEWILL) – Chelsea Football Club is reportedly on the verge of strengthening their defensive lineup with the potential acquisition of Monaco’s highly-regarded central defender, Axel Disasi.
The French international, known for excelling on the right side of a defensive pairing, is believed to be on the cusp of joining the ranks of the English Premier League giants for a rumoured fee of approximately £38 million. Disasi, who has consistently impressed since his move from Reims to Monaco in 2020, has been the subject of keen interest from various clubs, with Manchester United among those previously linked to him.
However, it now appears that Stamford Bridge will be his new destination, where he is poised to be one of the initial signings under the stewardship of new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino. The 25-year-old centre-back will bolster Chelsea’s squad alongside other additions including Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, and Angelo Gabriel, as the club actively strengthens its roster during the summer transfer window. Notably, Disasi will reunite with former Monaco teammate Benoit Badiashile, who made the move to Chelsea in January.
The pursuit of Disasi comes in the wake of an injury to Wesley Fofana, leaving a void in the defensive department that could last for a considerable portion of the upcoming season. Additionally, Brighton and Hove Albion’s continued interest in securing the services of Levi Colwill, who impressed while on loan with the south coast club previously, has likely further fuelled Chelsea’s determination to bolster their defensive options.
Under the guidance of Pochettino, who aims to elevate Chelsea’s performance this season, the club has not only made several signings but also witnessed the departure of key players like N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, and Mason Mount, in an effort to generate funds and achieve financial equilibrium following significant spending during Todd Boehly’s initial transfer window earlier this year.
