April 05, (THEWILL) – Former Chelsea midfielder, Frank Lampard, is on the verge of returning to Stamford Bridge as the club’s new head coach on an interim basis, until the end of the season.
Negotiations are underway, with Lampard having been in attendance at Chelsea’s recent goalless draw with Liverpool.
Lampard has been without a club since his sacking by Everton in January, having previously managed Chelsea from July 2019 to January 2021. He was then replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who held the position until the Todd Boehly consortium took over control of the club and was considered to not be in line with the management direction of the new owners.
Meanwhile, the search for a permanent successor to former manager, Graham Potter, continues. Co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, are leading the hunt, with co-owners Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, responsible for making the final decision.
As THEWILL previously reported, rumoured candidates include Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann, as fresh reports suggest that Brighton & Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi is not considered to be in the running.
