August 31, (THEWILL) – A loan to Bayer Leverkusen for the 2022/2023 campaign has been confirmed by Chelsea for winger, Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The 21-year-old has yet to play a single game for the Blues this year and has not even been a substitute in their last three matches. Despite having a recall option in January, Chelsea announced on Tuesday that Hudson-Odoi will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Bundesliga team Leverkusen due to the long-standing and intense interest in his talents.
As Chelsea advanced to the Europa League final in the 2018/2019 season, Hudson-Odoi inserted himself into the Chelsea system. He was being pursued by Bayern Munich at the moment, but he decided to stay at Stamford Bridge.
However, he has subsequently dealt with a number of injuries, most notably to his Achilles, and is now only sometimes featured by current manager Thomas Tuchel, who occasionally chooses to play him at wing-back.
In order to aid Leverkusen in their effort to catch up to Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern, the winger will play for the Bundesliga club for the season. Additionally, they will compete in the UEFA Champions League this year, going up against Atletico Madrid, Porto, and Club Brugge in the group round.
