July 05, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have completed the signing of midfielder, Mason Mount, from Chelsea, in a deal worth a reported £60 million.
After facing multiple rejections for their bids, United finally reached an agreement with the Blues. Mount had one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and joins Old Trafford on a five-year deal with the option for an additional year. The 24-year-old was excited about the new challenge and the strong squad he is joining, as well as his ambition to win major trophies with United. The product of the Chelsea Academy has been a regular in the first team since his debut in 2019, scoring 38 goals for the club.
Mount decided to leave Stamford Bridge after failing to reach an agreement on a contract extension. In his farewell message, he was grateful to the Chelsea supporters but stated that the move was the right decision for his career at this moment. The deal involves an initial payment of £55 million and an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons.
