August 20, (THEWILL) – Juventus got their Serie A campaign off to a flying start on Sunday, with an emphatic 3-0 victory away to Udinese.
Massimiliano Allegri’s charges wasted no time in asserting their dominance, with Federico Chiesa firing them into an early lead after just two minutes. The Bianconeri were hungry for more and they got their second goal in the 19th minute courtesy of a Dusan Vlahovic penalty after Christian Kabasele was penalized for handball.
Juve continued to apply pressure on the Udinese defence right up until half-time when debutant Andrea Cambiaso set up Adrien Rabiot to head home a third on the stroke of halftime. Udinese manager, Andrea Sottil, introduced Lazar Samardzic at the break in an attempt to spark a comeback, and the 21-year-old almost pulled one back with a blistering long-range effort that was well saved.
However, the home side struggled to break down Juve’s stubborn defence despite enjoying good spells of possession. Juventus thought they had a fourth when Vlahovic found the net again, but it was ruled out for offside. Still, Allegri’s side comfortably saw out the win to get their title challenge off to the perfect start.
With last season’s top four finishers all getting wins on the table on the opening weekend, Juventus have instantly laid down a marker that they mean business this term as well. Allegri will be delighted with his team’s ruthless performance that sets them up nicely ahead of a tough run of fixtures.
