July 20, (THEWILL) – In accordance with a FIFA ruling, Chippa United has paid Nigerian striker, Augustine Chidi Kwem, all of his debts in order to avoid a transfer ban.
THEWILL recalls that Kwem filed a complaint with FIFA against Chippa, who are infamous for breaking contractual obligations, for an unpaid R200,000 bill during his time at the club, and FIFA subsequently decreed last December that he must be compensated within 45 days or Chippa risk a transfer ban for not upholding their financial obligations.
The player’s agents agreed after Chippa pleaded with them to pay in instalments, but they did not follow through, until they were brought to the attention of the Premier Soccer League (PSL), the South African Football Association (SAFA), and all pertinent authorities.
Three other Nigerian players who have played for the club, George Akpabio, Ugo Uzochukwu and James Okwuosa, all of whom were handled by Ogbah, have experienced similar difficulties at Chippa.
Kwem’s legal representative, Johnny Previous Ogbah, the head of Sports Law (Africa) at the Activity Chambers, verified that Chippa had cleared Kwem’s debt. Kwem left Chippa for TS Galaxy, where he played for a season before joining AmaZulu.
