March 21, (THEWILL) – The future of Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur hangs in the balance after his latest caustic outbursts.
As THEWILL reported, following the team’s 3-3 draw with Southampton, Conte criticised his players’ mentality, calling them “selfish.” This led to speculation that he was deliberately trying to get himself sacked. Now, Tottenham’s Chairman, Daniel Levy, is considering whether to dismiss Conte during the international break.
Sources monitored by THEWILL claim that Levy has spoken to Conte about his comments, and the Head Coach has assured him that he was not targeting the club or its owners. However, Levy is said to be seeking advice from his closest advisors before making a decision.
If Conte is sacked, Ryan Mason is expected to take charge until the end of the season. Conte’s contract with Tottenham expires at the end of the 2022/2023 campaign, but his position has been under scrutiny due to the team’s inconsistent form. The draw with Southampton was the latest disappointment, with Spurs having won just one of their last five games.
If Conte is let go, it will be yet another managerial change for Tottenham in recent years, and the team will need to regroup quickly to salvage their season.
