November 19, (THEWILL) – Nigeria is preparing to host the 2024 African Military Games, with 25 nations participating in the competition scheduled from November 18 to November 30, 2024, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja. Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, made this announcement during a press briefing regarding the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s readiness for the international sporting event.
The military games represent a significant platform for strengthening international cooperation among African armed forces. “The hosting of the African military games in Abuja is a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to promoting peace and security in the region and an opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities as a host nation”, Gen. Musa stated during the briefing.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, AVM Abidemi Marquis, confirmed that eight participating nations have arrived thus far. The committee has implemented comprehensive preparations, including facility upgrades and coordination with 19 Nigerian sports federations. International judges and referees will officiate the events, with doping controls in place to maintain fair competition standards.
Organisers acknowledge that President Bola Tinubu’s support has been instrumental in facilitating the hosting of the continental sporting event. The aim is to foster relationships between military personnel from different African nations while contributing to regional stability through athletic competition and professional exchange.
The Local Organising Committee has established transportation arrangements to the national stadium and collaborated with sports federations to ensure smooth operations throughout the games. Gen. Musa extended an invitation to Nigerian citizens to attend the events, emphasising the importance of public participation in making the games successful.
