June 27, (THEWILL) – The Federal High Court, Abuja, has affirmed Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadari, SAN, as the deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the September 21 gubernatorial election in Edo State.

Justice E. Nwite, who gave the ruling on Thursday, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept and process Kadari’s substitution and publish his name on the list of candidates.

The court held that the process of his nomination “over-complied” with the Constitution, Electoral Act, and Labour Party’s constitution.

Edo LP governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, had picked Kadari as his running mate but the Independent National Electoral Commission listed Alufohai Oluyinka Faith as the deputy governorship candidate of the party.

Reacting, the Party blamed the situation on a “technical error”. According to Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, “Our team followed all necessary procedures and submitted Alhaji Kadiri’s name and credentials as the deputy governorship candidate, well within INEC’s stipulated window.

“Unfortunately, a technical glitch occurred at the end of the National Headquarters of our party during the submission process, resulting in the incorrect name appearing on the final list.”
