SAN FRANCISCO, November 01, (THEWILL) – The Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed an application by former Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke seeking to be tried in Nigeria.
Justice Rilwan Aikawa, in his ruling on Wednesday, declined all of Diezani’s prayers described it as bizarre and a misuse of court processes, stressing that he would not allow himself to be used to frustrate Diezani’s imminent trial in the United Kingdom.
He agreed with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC ) that the application was a bid by the former Minister to escape justice in the United Kingdom declaring that the Attorney-General of the Federation has the exclusive right to decide who to bring a charge against.
“Why did she wait all this while before she came up with this bizarre application?” he queried.
“I find this application as lacking in merit and it is hereby dismissed,” the judge held, adding that Mrs Alison-Madueke “was crying wolf where there was none.”
