March 29, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has returned to training after withdrawing from the Belgian national squad due to a muscular strain.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper kept a clean sheet against Sweden during Belgium’s opening fixture of the 2024 European Championships qualification process, stopping the opposition from scoring in 49 of his 101 international appearances.
Courtois sustained a minor adductor strain, which led to his withdrawal from Belgium’s friendly against Germany, but the injury was not serious enough to keep him out of training with Real Madrid. He is expected to return to the field for Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga match against Real Valladolid, following a recent loss to Barcelona in El Clasico.
While Madrid is not focusing on closing the 12-point gap to first place, they will need to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Barcelona in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals. Courtois was crowned the best goalkeeper in the world at the 2022 Ballon d’Or awards but lost to Emi Martinez in the FIFA Best Awards last February.
