June 05, (THEWILL) – Cremonese have reportedly turned down an initial offer from Glasgow Rangers for Super Eagles striker, Cyriel Dessers.

The Scottish club had tabled a substantial bid in their pursuit of the Nigerian forward, but their offer was met with rejection by the Italian outfit. Cremonese is determined to recoup a significant portion of the £6 million they invested in Dessers when they acquired him from KRC Genk last summer.

Rangers, under the guidance of manager Michael Beale, have identified Dessers as an ideal replacement for Alfredo Morelos, and he is highly regarded by the club. With only 20 starts out of a possible 43 in all competitions during his debut season at Cremonese, the 26-year-old striker made nine appearances as a substitute. Despite limited playing time, Dessers managed to find the back of the net on seven occasions and provided two assists across all competitions before their relegation.

Prior to his move to Italy, Dessers made a significant impact in the Eredivisie, clinching the prestigious Golden Boot accolade in the 2019/2020 season after netting an impressive 15 goals for Heracles Almelo. Furthermore, he demonstrated his talent during a loan spell with Feyenoord in the 2021/2022 season, earning recognition as the Europa Conference League’s standout performer.
