February 12, (THEWILL) – Manchester United has signed Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, the 11-year-old son of the renowned Portugal forward, to his first professional contract.
Cristiano Jr. was a member of Juventus’ development system before moving to England when his father made an emotional return to United last summer, and he has been training with United’s junior system ever since.
Just over six months later, United have seen enough to believe Cristiano Jr should be retained on a long-term basis, and Ronaldo’s fiancee, Georgina Rodriguez, confirmed the 11-year-agreement old’s on Instagram.
“Pursuing our dreams together. Mom loves you,” she posted as a caption of some pictures of herself, Cristiano Jr, displaying his new shirt, and her three daughters with on the picture-sharing platform.
At Old Trafford, Cristiano Jr was given the coveted number 7 shirt. His father presently wears the number 7 for the senior team, while legends such as George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, and David Beckham have all starred in the famed 7 shirt.
Ronaldo has always stated that he will never force Cristiano Jr to pursue a career in football, but that if he wishes to do so, he will do everything possible to assist him.
Talking about future prospects for his son in 2020, the older Ronaldo had said: “We’ll see if my son will become a great footballer. He has potential. He is fast and dribbles well, but that is not enough. I always tell him that it takes work and dedication to have success.
“I won’t pressure him to become a footballer, but if you ask me if I want him to, yes I would like it. The most important thing is to become the best at whatever he does, whether it is as a footballer or a doctor.”
