July 17, (THEWILL) – The Cross River State Government has offered free medical services to victims of the Nko/ Onyadama Communal crisis.
The is to help curtail the plight of the people and prevent possible disease outbreaks.
The Director-General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Janet Ekpenyong, led the government’s team to the warring communities.
The Director-General of the Cross River State Emergency Agency, Mr Princewill Ayim, and the Permanent Secretary, Cross River State Ministry of Health, Dr Iwara Iwara, were also on the team.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Obol Lupon of Ugep, Ekpenyong praised the role and timely disposition of the traditional ruler, which helped to douse the tension in the affected communities.
She said the team had to spring into action to help alleviate the sufferings of the people, besides offering prompt medical assistance, especially to children, women, and expectant mothers in both Communities.
She further called on the Federal Government and other partners to, as a matter of urgency, support Governor Ben Ayade’s gesture.
On his part, Iwara admonished the people to live together in peace in order to enjoy the numerous healthcare facilities and other benefits provided by the state government.
He said that more support would be made available to them as the state government was concerned about their welfare.
Iwara added that the records of the damages from the crisis would be assessed and a formal report made so that the government would know know where to provide support.
