March 25, (THEWILL) – The Czech Republic got off to a flying start in their opening Euro 2024 qualifier against Poland on Friday, with two goals in the first three minutes setting the tone for the game.
Ladislav Krejci headed in a long throw-in from Vladimir Coufal just 27 seconds into the match, before Tomas Cvancara doubled the lead with a strike from David Jurasek’s cross.
Despite the early setback, Poland managed to control possession for large portions of the game, but their efforts were ultimately in vain as Jan Kuchta secured a third goal for the Czechs in the 64th minute.
Poland managed to get a consolation goal through Damian Szymanski in the dying minutes of the game, but it was too little, too late for Fernando Santos’ side. The Czechs will be looking to build on this impressive performance when they travel to Moldova on Monday, while Poland will be hoping for a better result when they host Albania.
