May 24, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s victorious Under-20 boys’ team, the Flying Eagles, and the national scrabble champions, were feted by the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, in his office at the MKO Abiola national stadium in Abuja on Monday.
Last Friday, the Flying Eagles defeated the Baby Squirrels of Benin Republic, to win the WAFU B U-20 championship in Niamey, qualifying for the 2023 Junior AFCON in Egypt. Meanwhile, the national scrabble team won the West African Scrabble championship in Ghana.
Dare congratulated the Flying Eagles on winning the WAFU B U-20 title and bringing joy to Nigerian sports fans. In turn, Dr Sanusi Mohammed, the NFF’s General Secretary, commended the Ministry of Sports for giving the federation with the resources it needed to succeed with the Flying Eagles.
Nigeria was the overall Best Country at the regional Scrabble championship, in addition to producing the Championship’s Most Valuable Player, Eta Oghenekaro. While praising the scrabble winners, Dare stated that their training sessions had paid off, as evidenced by their outstanding performance at the Championship.
Nigeria’s victory her dominance in Scrabble continues, with no fewer than eight players in the Top 20.
