April 08, (THEWILL) – Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne reached a new milestone in his English Premier League career on Saturday, becoming only the fifth player to reach 100 assists in the league’s history.
De Bruyne set up Erling Haaland’s goal with a teasing cross in their away match against Southampton, taking him to the landmark figure.
The Belgium international achieved the feat in just 237 games, making him the fastest player to reach 100 assists in the EPL. His record surpasses that of Cesc Fabregas, who reached the milestone in 293 appearances. The other players to reach the century mark are Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, and Frank Lampard.
De Bruyne’s tally includes all but one of his assists in a City shirt, with the other coming during his time at Chelsea. With Lampard on 102 and Rooney on 103 assists, De Bruyne has the opportunity to move further up the all-time assists charts before the end of the season.
