December 30, (THEWILL) – Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne remains uncertain about his future at the club, revealing no contract discussions have begun despite his current agreement ending in six months.
The Belgian international could negotiate with foreign clubs starting January 2025.
The 33-year-old’s performance statistics during the 2024/2025 season indicate a decline in output, with just two goals and two assists from eight English Premier League starts.
His limited involvement stems from persistent injury challenges, including a recent abdominal issue that has kept him sidelined.
When questioned regarding potential contract negotiations, De Bruyne responded directly: “No. Nothing yet.”
The midfielder returned to City’s starting lineup during their 2-0 victory over Leicester City, maintaining an impressive record of just one defeat in their last 35 league matches when he starts.
City manager Pep Guardiola reinforced De Bruyne’s significance to the team, stating, “I said many times there are no doubts about Kevin when Kevin is fit.
He was one of the most impactful players in the history of City and the Premier League, but sometimes he didn’t feel well in the recent past and sometimes he needs physicality to feel good, like everyone.”
With City currently fifth in the EPL table, De Bruyne addressed his recovery process: “I hope to get better now.
We have got an easier schedule. I hope that some training sessions in the next few weeks will get me into a better rhythm. With the injury I had, I took a while then I had four games in 10 days, which was hard.”
