May 18, (THEWILL) – Seven exceptional players have been shortlisted for the prestigious English Premier League EA SPORTS Player of the Season 2022/2023 Award.
The nominees include Manchester City duo of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, the Arsenal pair of Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford of Manchester United and Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier.
Among this notable and worthy cast of contenders is Belgian playmaker, De Bruyne, who has the opportunity to etch his name in EPL history by earning his third EA SPORTS Player of the Season award. The influential midfielder has dazzled fans with 16 assists this season, coming tantalisingly close to the all-time single-season record.
Yet, standing in the way of De Bruyne third claim is his eminently formidable teammate, Erling Haaland, whose debut EPL season has been nothing short of extraordinary. The 22-year-old Norwegian sensation has surpassed Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer’s long-standing joint-Premier League record, by netting an impressive 36 goals. He is the favourite to win the award by a mile.
For the rest of the nominees, Kane has had another personally fruitful season, scoring 27 goals and equalling the competition record by finding the net in 24 different matches. Odegaard has led Arsenal with distinction, captaining the team at just 24 years old, while contributing 15 goals and 7 assists in their title battle against City. Rashford has enjoyed his best-ever campaign, contributing to 21 goals and scoring in nine of ten consecutive matches following the World Cup.
Also, Saka, Arsenal’s 21-year-old, has impressed by reaching double figures in both goals and assists, as his team pursued the title and Trippier, the influential Magpies’ right-back, has made a significant impact on both ends of the pitch, creating 104 chances, the second-highest this season, and helping his team in their pursuit of a top-four finish.
