July 08 (THEWILL) – Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea, has announced his departure from the club after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract.
The Spanish shot-stopper’s previous deal expired this summer, and although he was offered a chance to re-sign on reduced terms, De Gea opted to leave Old Trafford. Taking to Twitter, he expressed his gratitude to the club and its supporters: “I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club.
“I took incredible pride every time I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestowed upon a few lucky footballers.”
He reflected on the unforgettable and successful period they experienced together, surpassing his expectations when he arrived as a young player from Madrid. Now, De Gea believes it is the right time for him to seek a fresh challenge and test himself in a new environment
He also acknowledged that Manchester will always hold a special place in his heart, having played a significant role in shaping his career.
