February 04, (THEWILL) – David de Gea has been named Premier League Player of the Month for January. Last month, the Red Devils goalie set a league high record with 22 saves, five more than anyone else.

De Gea has been awarded the Player of the Month trophy as well as an unique in-form card in FIFA 22 by EA Sports.

He was instrumental in Man United’s back-to-back Premier League victories in January. In a 3-1 win against Brentford, the Spaniard made eight stops before maintaining his only clean sheet of the month in a last-gasp 1-0 triumph over West Ham at home.

United have regained a place in the top four, thanks in part to De Gea’s outstanding performances, who has once again proven to be their saviour this season.

The Red Devils’ fast start to the 2021/22 season came to a halt during a difficult autumnal stretch, with De Gea, who was dropped towards the end of last season, coming to United’s rescue time and time again.

Despite his heroics in a Manchester United shirt over the last decade, De Gea has never won the Premier League’s Player of the Month accolade and he is the first goalkeeper to win it since February 2016, when Southampton’s Fraser Forster claimed it.
