June 16, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have officially announced the release of seven players, while simultaneously revealing that contract negotiations with goalkeeper, David de Gea, are still in progress.
De Gea, who recently concluded his 12th season at Old Trafford, secured the English Premier League’s prestigious Golden Glove award for his exceptional clean sheet record. However, concerns have arisen regarding the Spanish shot-stopper’s distribution skills, as well as occasional blunders in stopping shots despite his remarkable saves.
Despite these concerns, United and manager, Erik ten Hag, are eager to secure De Gea’s services with a new contract. Nevertheless, a significant reduction in De Gea’s £350,000-a-week wages has been agreed upon in principle. Although the club has not yet confirmed De Gea’s retention, they have affirmed that talks are ongoing regarding a potential extension.

Porto’s Diogo Costa and Brentford’s David Raya have caught their attention, while Inter’s Andre Onana, a long-term target for Chelsea, is also being monitored and could be signed for around £40m.
In addition to goalkeeper reinforcements, manager Ten Hag’s priority is to sign a reliable striker who can assume the role of the club’s primary number nine. Anthony Martial’s recurring injury concerns and Wout Weghorst’s temporary loan spell at the club make a new signing crucial. Notable names on United’s shortlist include Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, and Dusan Vlahovic, while they also maintain an interest in emerging talents Benjamin Sesko and Rasmus Hojlund.
