BEVERLY HILLS, May 27, (THEWILL) – An official confirmation is on the cards after coach Massimiliano Allegri reportedly signed a four-year contract that will see the return to former Serie A champions Juventus, to replace Andrea Pirlo just two seasons after his initial dismissal.
Sources monitored by THEWILL affirm that all relevant paperwork has been finalised with all parties and all that is left is an announcement to that effect. Such an official confirmation will mark the second coming of Allegri to the club where he was fired in 2019.
Allegri’s tenure as manager, which began in 2014 when he came from AC Milan to Turin to replace the outgoing Antonio Conte, was a domestic success as it saw him claim five consecutive Serie A titles and twice reach the final of the UEFA Champions League.
Since Allegri was dismissed, there have been silverware coming to the fully-stacked trophy cabinet of the Old Lady with coaches like Maurizio Sarri and Pirlo winning something in their one season at the helm, but both have failed to make the same impact nor bring in any of the European glory the club seeks.
Club legend and coach Pirlo, for instance, won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in his first year as manager but failed to defend the league title which meant the club could not reach that 10th consecutive title, had a stuttering UCL campaign and very nearly lost their top four place.
Now, the exit of club director Fabio Paratici, which was made official yesterday, opens the door for Allegri’s comeback with the blessing of Andrea Agnelli, the President of the Old Lady.
Reports put the deal that brought Allegri back to be worth about €9m per season, which is a raise from the figure he was earning in 2018-19 period leading up to his prior dismissal.
