The 25-year-old ex-Paris Saint-germain star sustained the injury during France’s opening 1-0 victory against Austria in the Euro 2024 tournament.
Mbappe missed France’s subsequent 0-0 draw with the Netherlands, leaving the team goalless from open play in the competition thus far. His potential return for Tuesday’s crucial match against Poland has sparked optimism within the French camp, as they seek to clinch the top spot in their group.
“He’s better day by day,” Deschamps told reporters on Monday. “I won’t deny that he is as keen to play tomorrow as he was to play against the Netherlands.” The coach’s comments suggest that while Mbappe’s condition is improving, his participation in the Poland match remains uncertain.
Hopes for Mbappe’s comeback were further fuelled when he donned a protective mask during a practice session on Saturday. Midfielder N’Golo Kante hinted at the striker’s possible return, stating: “With Kylian back, I think that can help us to score and win. Clearly, it’s a big plus to have Kylian back.”
