November 05, (THEWILL) – Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the 2024 ATP Tour Finals in Turin due to injury concerns, marking the end of a challenging season for the tennis champion. The Serbian athlete announced via Instagram on Tuesday, stating he would not participate in next week’s competition.
The defending champion’s absence from the prestigious year-end tournament results in a substantial rankings impact, with Djokovic forfeiting 1,300 points. This withdrawal follows his recent non-participation in the Paris Masters, where he lost an additional 1,000 ranking points.
The 2024 season concludes without an ATP Tour title for Djokovic, breaking his remarkable streak from 2005. While the year brought disappointment in Grand Slam competitions, Djokovic achieved a notable milestone by winning Olympic gold in singles, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in Paris. However, setbacks included losses to Alcaraz at Wimbledon, Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open, and Alexei Popyrin at the U.S. Open, while a torn medial meniscus forced his withdrawal from the French Open.
The late-season development has altered the ATP Tour Finals qualification landscape. Casper Ruud, Alex De Minaur, and Andrey Rublev, who were competing for the final two spots, have all now qualified for the event.
