December 27, (THEWILL) — Patrick Dorgu scored his first goal for Manchester United to earn a 1-0 win against Newcastle United at Old Trafford in the English Premier League.
The wing-back’s superb volley in the 24th minute proved decisive for Ruben Amorim’s team, who played without the injured Bruno Fernandes.
Early chances fell to Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes, both testing opposing defences with headers.
Dorgu then struck after Nick Woltemade’s clearance dropped to him outside the box, and the left-footed strike flew past Aaron Ramsdale to give United the advantage before the half-hour mark.
Benjamin Sesko hit the frame of the goal from a narrow angle around the hour, with Lewis Hall doing likewise from distance shortly afterwards.
Diogo Dalot wasted a golden opportunity to extend United’s lead on 73 minutes, shooting high when clean through after Lisandro Martinez played him in behind the Newcastle backline.
The visitors dominated possession with two-thirds of the ball but could not find an equaliser despite late pressure.
Anthony Gordon and Lewis Miley both fired over the bar in the closing stages, leaving Newcastle without reward for their territorial control.
The result lifted United while Newcastle departed Old Trafford without points despite their sustained second-half dominance.
Dorgu’s memorable debut strike separated the two sides in a tightly contested EPL encounter.
