October 09, (THEWILL) – The stage is set for the upcoming 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League in Cote d’Ivoire after the official draw was conducted on Monday. The ceremony, attended by representatives from across Africa, divided eight clubs into two groups for the November tournament.
Reigning champions, AS FAR of Morocco, headline a competitive Group B also consisting of Ampem Darkoa of Ghana, Huracanes of Equatorial Guinea and AS Mande of Mali. Meanwhile, hosts Athletico FC d’Abidjan are in Group A alongside inaugural winners Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, SC Casablanca of Morocco and Tanzania’s JKT Queens.
The round-robin group stage will see each team play their three opponents before the top two in each group advance to the semi-finals. The finalists will then contest the title on November 19.
Matches will take place across two Ivorian cities – San Pedro and Korhogo – providing an excellent platform for Africa’s elite women’s clubs. Two African legends, Fernande Tchetche of Ivory Coast and South Africa’s Janine Van Wyk, conducted the draw.
With strong teams involved, the tournament promises to be a spectacular showcase of women’s football talent across the continent. Fans will be eager to see if AS FAR can retain their crown.
