July 13, (THEWILL) – Daniel Dubois is promising to “unleash hell” on Oleksandr Usyk in their upcoming world heavyweight title fight on August 26th in Wroclaw, Poland.
The fight, which will be broadcast live on TNT Sports, will see Usyk defend his WBA ‘super’, IBF, WBO and Ring magazine belts against Dubois. Dubois became the mandatory challenger to Usyk in June 2022, after defeating American Trevor Bryan by knockout to win the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title.
In a pre-fight press conference, Dubois stated that he is feeling no pressure ahead of the fight and believes it is his time to become a heavyweight champion. He said that he is “younger” and “stronger” than his Ukrainian opponent and plans to “outmanoeuvre him in everything.” Dubois also dismissed the opinions of bookmakers, saying that their predictions are not a source of pressure for him.
The fight at the Tarczynski Arena will be Usyk’s first title defence since he beat Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia to retain his belts. It will also be his first fight in Poland since 2015, where he won the WBO world cruiserweight title against Krzysztof Glowacki. The location of the fight was chosen to honour Ukrainian refugees who have fled their home nation to its western neighbour following Russia’s invasion of the country.
Usyk showed respect for his opponent, saying that Dubois was a “nice man” and a “nice athlete” who deserves his position as the mandatory challenger. However, he also stated that he wants his fighting to do the talking in Wroclaw.
