June 11, (THEWILL) – England’s national football team has made some notable changes to their squad ahead of the upcoming June internationals, it was announced on Sunday.
The Three Lions are set to travel to Malta this Friday and then host North Macedonia a week later, as they strive for victory in two crucial Euro 2024 qualifiers. However, England will now have to navigate these matches without the services of Lewis Dunk from Brighton and Hove Albion and Jude Bellingham, who is currently on the verge of a move to Real Madrid.
According to a statement released by the England camp, Lewis Dunk has been forced to withdraw from the national squad due to an injury. As the sole player absent from Gareth Southgate’s original 25-man roster, Dunk will not be reporting to St George’s Park this week. Similarly, Jude Bellingham, who missed Borussia Dortmund’s season finale due to an injury, will not be able to participate in this month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Bellingham will continue his rehabilitation at the National Football Centre, hoping to make a swift recovery. Without them, the England squad has begun to assemble at St George’s Park, with players such as Declan Rice from West Ham and the Manchester City contingent set to join in the coming days. These individuals are riding high after their respective achievements in European competitions.
England will face Malta at Ta’ Qali on June 16, before hosting North Macedonia at Manchester’s Old Trafford on June 19. With the changes in the squad, the team will need to adjust its game plan to secure victories in these crucial matches.
