
November 28, (THEWILL) – The Ebonyi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has expressed optimism that the newly elected National President of the Union, Comrade Yahaya Alhassan, will usher in a united and formidable era for the NUJ.
This sentiment was conveyed by the Ebonyi NUJ Chairman, Comrade Nwafor, in a congratulatory message following Comrade Alhassan’s victory at the 8th Triennial National Delegates’ Conference held in Owerri, Imo State.
In his statement, Nwafor urged the new President to build on the achievements of his predecessor while calling on other candidates who contested the presidential election to unite with Alhassan to strengthen the Union.
The statement reads in part, “It is with immense joy that the Ebonyi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists wishes to profoundly congratulate you, Comrade Yahaya Alhassan, on your well-deserved victory as President of the NUJ at the just-concluded 8th Triennial National Delegates’ Conference held in Owerri, Imo State.
“Your victory is a testament to your wide acceptability among journalists across the country. It is indeed a reward for your dedication, perseverance, and humility, which you have demonstrated in serving the Union for over two decades.”
Nwafor also expressed confidence in Alhassan’s capacity to sustain and improve on the legacies of his predecessor, Dr. Chris Isiguzo, MFR.
“We do not doubt that through your leadership ingenuity, you will foster a more united and formidable NUJ for the benefit of both members and the entire Nigerian populace,” the statement added.
The Ebonyi NUJ Chairman pledged the council’s unwavering support for the new leadership and urged other presidential candidates to exhibit sportsmanship by collaborating with the newly elected President for the Union’s greater good.
“We equally seize this opportunity to counsel other presidential candidates to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and close ranks with the new President for the benefit of the Union. Together, we are stronger,” Nwafor emphasised.
