July 09, (THEWILL) – The Edo State Government and the lead sponsor, Premium Trust Bank, have received commendations from athletes and officials of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for the successful conclusion of the 2023 World Athletics Championship National Trials in Benin City.
The event, which took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium from July 5 to 7, saw the participation of over 450 athletes, including renowned stars such as Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume. AFN President, Tonobok Okowa, expressed his satisfaction with the support provided by Edo State Government and Premium Trust Bank, praising their contributions to the event’s success.
In his statement, Okowa highlighted the solid infrastructure and continuous support from Edo State, urging other states to follow their example. He specifically thanked Governor Godwin Obaseki; Deputy, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu, and Chairman of Edo Sports Commission, Yusuf Alli, for their assistance. Furthermore, Okowa expressed his gratitude to Premium Trust Bank for their belief in the AFN and their sponsorship of the championship.
Several athletes also lauded the bank for their partnership and synergy with the AFN, noting their previous sponsorship of the 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba. Premium Trust Bank’s support extends beyond the AFN, as they also sponsor other major sporting events in the country, including the upcoming Abuja marathon in October.
