SAN FRANCISCO, October 11, (THEWILL) – In preparation for the Eid-El-Kabir festival coming up next week, the Borno State Government has spent about N50 million to purchase 540 rams for indigent muslims in two of the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
The rams, purchased at the market price of between N90,000 and N100,000 each, and to be given to poor muslims in Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Areas, are in addition to thousands of others already bought by the government.
Every year, the State Government normally shares thousands of rams to the citizens for the Eid-El-Kabir celebration .
A statement by the Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Mr. Inuwa Bwala, said: “The Executive Governor of Borno State, Hon. Kashim Shettima, has in his usual magnanimity and in the spirit of the Eid-El-Kabir, approved the distribution of 540 bulls to cater for the less privileged residents of Maiduguri and Jere who cannot afford the Eid Addah sacrifice.
“To this end, a committee comprising religious leaders; traditional rulers, and officials of the affected local government areas, as well as representatives of the state government, has been mandated to work out modalities for the efficient distribution of the bulls, with a view to ensuring that the items get to the intended beneficiaries.”
According to the statement, “The committee, which has since commenced work will announce the venues for the collection of the bulls before the Sallah day.”
The statement said the governor urged residents and beneficiaries to conduct themselves in orderly manner.
“The committee advises those who can afford the sacrifice to please allow their brothers who cannot afford it to benefit from the 540 bulls. Each of the 15 wards in Maiduguri and Jere metropolis respectively are to have 20 bulls to be slaughtered and shared to poor residents,” the statement added.
