March 28, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur’s Emerson Royal will undergo surgery on his knee injury sustained while on international duty with Brazil.

The 24-year-old defender picked up the injury in stoppage time during Brazil’s 2-1 defeat by Morocco in a friendly last weekend. According to a statement from Tottenham, Emerson suffered a meniscus injury to his left knee and will have to undergo surgery before starting his rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff.

It is unclear how long the Brazilian will be out of action. Yet, the news comes at a crucial time for the north London side, who are battling for a top-four finish in the English Premier League. They face tough matches against Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle United in April.
