Endrick

December 23, (THEWILL) — Endrick has joined Olympique Lyonnais on loan until the end of the season after struggling for opportunities at Real Madrid. The Brazilian forward will spend six months in France on a deal costing Lyon up to €1 million.

The 19-year-old has endured a difficult period since suffering a hamstring injury in May, which relapsed during the summer and forced him to miss the Club World Cup and the opening month of the domestic campaign. Once fit, Endrick made just three appearances under Xabi Alonso, with only one lasting longer than 11 minutes against third-tier opposition Talavera.

His final act before the loan move proved problematic when he received a red card for dissent whilst sitting on the bench during Real Madrid’s 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo earlier this month. The forward will wear the number nine shirt at Lyon, the same number he held at the Spanish club.

Endrick remains contracted to Real Madrid until 2030, having joined from Palmeiras for €47.5 million 18 months ago. He has made 40 appearances for the club’s first team, scoring seven goals during that period.

The loan represents part of Real Madrid’s broader strategy of recruiting Brazilian talent, which has seen successes with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo but also failures such as Reinier, who departed without a single senior appearance after costing €30 million. Lyon announced the signing on Tuesday, declaring that Christmas had arrived early for the French club.
