April 12, (THEWILL) – The England Football Association has charged Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion after a touchline confrontation during last Saturday’s English Premier League game.
The altercation resulted in Spurs’ caretaker manager, Christian Stellini and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, being sent off in the 58th minute. The FA alleges that both clubs failed to control the behaviour and conduct of those in their technical area during the incident.
In a statement, the FA said: “It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their technical area occupants conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or do not behave in a way which is improper.” The confrontation sparked a heated brawl that involved both benches, leading to the dismissal of Stellini and De Zerbi.
Both clubs have until April 17 to respond to the charges. Yet, the incident is a worrying development for Tottenham and Brighton, who are fighting to secure positions in Europe next season. The charges could potentially lead to fines or even point deductions.
