December 02, (THEWILL) – The English Football Association has punished Crystal Palace and Aston Villa with failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly manner during their Premier League match on Saturday.
The events happened in the 54th and 55th minutes of Villa’s 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park, which was officiated by Michael Salisbury, who was officiating his first Premier League match.
With numerous Palace players encircling Salisbury, events were triggered by Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba lunging in late on Wilfried Zaha, a challenge for which he was later booked.
Following the subsequent free-kick, Villa broke forward, with Palace captain Luka Milivojevic cutting down Ollie Watkins as he raced through on goal.
Players surrounded the referee once more, bumping into him repeatedly. Salisbury finally flashed Milivojevic with a yellow card.
“Both Crystal Palace FC and Aston Villa FC have been charged by The FA following their Premier League game on Saturday [27/11/21],” read the FA statement.
“Crystal Palace FC has been charged with two breaches of FA Rule E20.1 as it allegedly failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during both the 54th and 55th minutes of the game.
“Aston Villa FC allegedly failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 55th minute of the game and it has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1.
“Both clubs have until Monday [6/12/21] to provide their respective responses to these charges.”
Salisbury sent out Villa’s Douglas Luiz later in the 72nd minute, but VAR overturned the call.
