February 28, (THEWILL) – The English Football Association has written to Harvey Elliott, after he used a flare to celebrate Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final victory, despite the fact that pyrotechnics are prohibited in English football stadiums.
After Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Chelsea 11-10 on penalties, the 18-year-old Liverpool star picked up a red flare thrown towards the pitch by Anfield fans. While celebrating, he was photographed with the flare in his hand.
Elliott was introduced as a substitute for captain Jordan Henderson in the 79th minute. In the penalty shootout, he scored Liverpool’s ninth penalty.
Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, a substitute goalkeeper, missed a penalty kick far over the crossbar, denying Thomas Tuchel his first domestic trophy with the club.
Elliott was not in Liverpool’s matchday squad at the start of the season. After Thiago sustained an injury during the warm-up, Klopp added him to the bench.
Elliott’s first domestic prize as a senior comes in the form of the Carabao Cup. In 2019, he joined Liverpool from Fulham, however he spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Blackburn Rovers.
