July 05, (THEWILL) – Former Spain head coach and Barcelona boss, Luis Enrique, has been appointed as the new manager of Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
The French club confirmed the 53-year-old’s arrival on Wednesday, replacing Christophe Galtier, who recently departed after just one season in charge, as THEWILL reported. Enrique left his position with the Spanish national team following their early exit from the World Cup, and he has been linked with various managerial roles since then, including a potential move to Chelsea.
However, PSG ultimately secured Enrique’s services to lead the team in their pursuit of UEFA Champions League success. During his playing career, the young Enrique represented Barcelona for eight years, following a five-year stint at Real Madrid. He transitioned into coaching and took charge of Barcelona in 2014, where he achieved significant success. Under his leadership, Barcelona secured two La Liga titles and claimed the UCL in a remarkable league and European double during his first year at the helm.
With PSG aiming to bolster their chances of winning the UCL, Enrique’s experience and track record make him a valuable addition to the club’s coaching staff. They reportedly considered other candidates for the managerial role, including former Bayern Munich manager, Julian Nagelsmann. However, negotiations with Nagelsmann did not result in an agreement.
