April 05, (THEWILL) – Former Spain and Barcelona head coach, Luis Enrique, has flown to England for talks with Chelsea, over the vacant manager position at Stamford Bridge.
The London club are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Graham Potter, and Enrique has emerged as one of the leading contenders, along with Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino.
While intermediaries have already made contact, Chelsea will now hold face-to-face discussions with Enrique and his representatives, including Ivan de la Pena. As THEWILL reported, Enrique has expressed his eagerness to work in the English Premier League and has also had contact with Tottenham Hotspur.
The Spanish coach has emerged as a top target for both London clubs due to his track record of success at the highest level. Nagelsmann, on the other hand, has indicated that he is not entirely convinced by the project on offer at Tottenham.
Chelsea sources have confirmed that they expect to hold talks with Nagelsmann later this week, as the club continues its search for a permanent successor. In the meantime, Bruno Saltor has been appointed interim boss, but former Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, is being considered as a potential caretaker to lead the team until the end of the season.
