July 03, (THEWILL) – Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has committed to recruiting talented players from around the world, to strengthen Enyimba football club’s chances of success in the CAF Champions League, against other formidable teams on the continent.
Otti made this announcement during a reception, which was held at the Banquet Hall in Umuahia, where he praised Enyimba for clinching the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title. The governor assured the club of his administration’s support, including the renovation of Enyimba Stadium, to meet the requirements of the CAF Champions League. He also addressed the issue of unpaid salaries, instructing immediate action to resolve the outstanding payments.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, sympathised with the players for the backlog of three months’ salaries. He conveyed the governor’s instructions to resolve the salary issue promptly. He commended the coaching crew, led by veteran Nigerian footballer, Finidi George, as well as the former chairman of the club, Felix Anyansi Agwu, for their contributions to the team’s success.
Otti also acknowledged the support offered by former Super Eagles’ captain, Kanu Nwankwo, in the development of the state’s sports industry. Also present, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, assured the team that their challenging times were over, due to the current administration’s determination to revitalise the club. He urged the management to stay focused on positioning the football club for future achievements.
Coach Finidi, on behalf of the team, expressed gratitude for Governor Otti’s support and encouragement, promising that Enyimba would not take the government’s assistance for granted and would strive to bring more honours to the state.
