March 31, (THEWILL) – English Premier League teams agreed to amend the regulations governing substitute players following a meeting of Premier League Shareholders on Thursday to discuss a variety of issues.

From next season, EPL clubs will be allowed to make five substitutions, three of which can be made during a match and one more at half-time.

As a result, the EPL can name a total of nine substitutes on the squad sheet, joining leagues like Spain and Germany in Europe’s top divisions that allow for five substitutions every game. The change will be advantageous for teams with squad depth like Manchester City and Liverpool.
