April 11, (THEWILL) – The English Premier League has announced a new date for Arsenal’s match against Chelsea.
Originally scheduled for April 29, the game has been rescheduled to take place on May 2 at 8pm at the Emirates Stadium. It was a decision considered necessary after the Metropolitan Police requested a further Safety Advisory Group (SAG) meeting and revised their position on the kick-off time.
In a statement, the Premier League expressed regret for the late notice of the fixture change and the impact it will have on supporters. Arsenal also expressed their disappointment with the decision, especially since the match had initially been approved for a Saturday evening kick-off.
Still, the change of the fixture will give Arsenal two extra days of rest after their match against Manchester City on April 26, which is a crucial match in their run-in towards the title. Chelsea will also benefit from the rescheduling, as they will have two more days of recovery after their west London derby against Brentford on the same day, before heading to Bournemouth on May 6.
