November 07, (THEWILL) – The England Football Association has initiated a safeguarding investigation into a prominent English Premier League figure following multiple historical allegations of sexual offences. The individual, who remains anonymous under UK privacy laws, continues to work within professional football despite previous police investigations.
The FA’s professional game safeguarding manager, David Gregson, began collecting evidence this week to evaluate potential risks to children and adults within football environments. The governing body maintains the authority to implement interim suspensions while conducting comprehensive risk assessments.
Three separate women have reported incidents to police authorities, with one case involving allegations from 2021 regarding an incident when the complainant was 15 years old. This particular case encountered legal complications due to time limit restrictions within the 1956 Sexual Offences Act, resulting in no further action being taken.
The Crown Prosecution Service determined insufficient evidence existed in two additional cases during 2024. The individual, who denies all allegations, voluntarily participated in a police interview under caution in June regarding one complaint, though no charges were filed. The complainant has requested a review of this decision.
The FA stated: “We investigate and assess all allegations and concerns about individuals who may pose a risk of harm to children and adults in football and, where applicable, can impose proportionate safeguarding measures in accordance with FA safeguarding regulations.”
