Wolves- Cunha

April 13, (THEWILL) – Wolverhampton Wanderers continued their impressive English Premier League form with a convincing 4-2 victory against Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux on Sunday, recording their fourth consecutive win in the competition.

The home side took an early lead through Rayan Ait-Nouri after just 85 seconds, before Djed Spence’s own goal extended their advantage before half-time.

Tottenham responded in the second half when Mathys Tel converted from Brennan Johnson’s cross in the 59th minute, but Wolves quickly restored their two-goal cushion as Ait-Nouri dispossessed Cristian Romero and set up Jorgen Strand Larsen for a simple finish.

Though Richarlison reduced the deficit with a header five minutes from time, Matheus Cunha sealed the result moments later with a calm finish after capitalising on Lucas Bergvall’s error.

The Brazilian forward Cunha made an impactful return from a four-match suspension, which he received following a red card during an FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth.

His late goal put the contest beyond doubt and further increased the pressure on Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, whose team suffered their 10th away league defeat of the 2024/2025 campaign.

The result moves Wolves up to 16th position in the EPL table, establishing a substantial 14-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone with six fixtures remaining this season.

Their improved league standing follows Ipswich Town’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea, where the promoted side failed to maintain a two-goal advantage.

Tottenham now finds themselves just two points ahead of Wolves in 15th place, continuing their disappointing away form that has characterised their season.

The London club’s defensive frailties were exposed once again, with their backline unable to contain Wolves’ direct attacking approach throughout the match.
