September 27, (THEWILL) — West Ham United have appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach on a three-year deal, moving swiftly after dismissing Graham Potter earlier on Saturday. Potter’s tenure lasted just eight months following his appointment as Julen Lopetegui’s successor, with the club managing only three points from five English Premier League matches this season.
The Portuguese manager arrives at the London Stadium less than three weeks after Nottingham Forest terminated his contract. Potter departed with the second-lowest win percentage among West Ham managers who oversaw more than one EPL game.
Nuno will take charge for Monday’s fixture against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Academy staff Mark Robson, Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville and Billy Lepine providing interim assistance until further coaching appointments are confirmed. The new manager expressed his determination to maximise team performance and competitiveness.
The 50-year-old guided Nottingham Forest to seventh place last season, qualifying for European competition for the first time in three decades. His 42% win rate across 62 EPL games is the best record for any Forest manager with more than 10 matches in the competition.
During his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nuno achieved consecutive seventh-place finishes in the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 campaigns. His 38% win percentage over 114 EPL games with Wolves ranks second in the club’s top-flight history, trailing only Lopetegui’s 39% from 23 matches.
