July 20, (THEWILL) – Sequel to a story THEWILL reported, in which an unnamed Premier League footballer had been arrested on suspicion of child sex offences in England, it has been revealed that the club, which immediately suspended the player, is Everton FC.
Initially unnamed in the report of the Greater Manchester Police, the Liverpool-based football club publicly confirmed they have suspended one of their first-team players pending a full police investigation of the charges.
There were no further details on the investigation or alleged offences in the Everton statement but it matches what was released by the Manchester police of their sex offences investigation into “a 31-year-old man” who is a regular player at the international level for his country.
The statement of the Goodison Park club was published on their official website on Monday night, wherein they confirmed they were supporting the authorities with their enquiries at this time. It read: “Everton can confirm it has suspended a First-Team player pending a police investigation.
“The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”
Under the new management of returning Premiership manager, Rafa Benitez, who spent the last year in the Chinese Super League with Dalian Professional, Everton have begun their pre-season campaign for the upcoming campaign with the challenge to get back into reckoning.
The 61-year-old comes with cognate EPL experience at the highest levels with his management of sides like Liverpool and Chelsea but a tough season at Newcastle was not the best of his coaching career.
Benitez will be looking to improve on that at Goodison Park to win over supporters and to improve on their 10th place Premier League finish under Carlo Ancelotti in the last campaign.
