January 07, (THEWILL) – Manchester City cruised into the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday, with a resounding 5-0 victory over Championship side Huddersfield Town. Two goals from Phil Foden and strikes from Julian Alvarez, Jeremy Doku and an own goal earned a comfortable win for the holders at the Etihad Stadium.
The match marked the long-awaited return from injury of star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who made an immediate impact by setting up Doku for City’s fifth goal after coming on as a second-half substitute. De Bruyne’s return after five months on the sidelines brought loud cheers from the home supporters and boosted City’s hopes of retaining the trophy.
Despite passionate backing from 6,000 travelling fans, Huddersfield offered little attacking threat against the English Premier League champions. The visitors battled hard initially but fell behind on 33 minutes when Foden finished off a slick move. Foden grabbed his second with a composed finish five minutes after the hour mark. Shortly after De Bruyne’s introduction, the Belgian played a superb one-two with Oscar Bobb before crossing for Doku to rifle in the fifth goal on a dominant afternoon for City.
The holders progress comfortably and remain on track to lift the FA Cup for a seventh time.
